Have been Maldives in August 2017, for a week staying in Scuba inn guest house on the Omadhoo island. We are a very active family of 4 – 2 adults and 2 kids (3.5 & 11 year old), the transportation was very easy & cheap – we took the public ferry option, the guest house manager Arif met us in Male and guided till the boat station.
Iland is very authentic and nice, local people are very friendly and lots of children, which was great as our kids were kept busy while on the beach 🙂
Rooms are clean and new, very comfy beds and all the linen/towels- new! Food is ok, the chef is nice and flexible – no spicy food and kids orientated, its a huge benefit when traveling with kids. As both of us are diver – we did diving in Omadhoo thila – thats just in a front of the island and is in top 10 dive spots in Maldives (we are both experienced divers), desert island is 10 minutes driving away and beyond any words – is a paradise island with 3 palm trees and while beach, we did the snorkeling trip to there and had lunch on the island. Its absolutely recommended new place and we wish a very good luck to the guys – very friendly and nice staff! we had the outstanding week!

I am not a first time traveler to Maldives and have been to resorts and other local islands earlier, I can say – far from Male better. Omdhoo local island in Ari Atoll is perfect escape – really oriental clean, tranquil island with nice local people and great house reef and narrow sunset beach.
My flight landed at 12 noon so I could catch the speed boat to the island at 4 pm, hotels staff Arief met me upon arrival and gave a short Male city tour before the transfer to the island, that was very nice. The hotel is clean and new and the personnel is very friendly, all speak good English and are very easy going. I ve been offered sunset fishing same evening and could catch a few fishes but not as great as the locals did though. Friday is a national holiday so its mosque – singing all day and all the families are gathering together on the public beach, people are really nice and friendly and shy on this island. House reef is colorful and alive, can do snorkeling on the South-West part of the island, spotted 2 turtles, lobsters and lots of fish. Due to the very short stay I had to catch speed boat at 7 am Saturday morning. Very convenient it takes just a bit more than 1 hr (the ocean was calm) and cots 25 $ one way, another option – public ferry is good too and costs like 4 times less but due to the timetable i could not get it.
